Housing

Some landlords in Dubai may request that you pay the entire year of rent up front, as well as a security deposit.  When signing a lease, make sure you look for additional fees---sometimes there are extra charges for gardening, building maintenance, etc.  Utilities are typically not included in the monthly rent.

Education in Dubai is expensive and has been on an upward trend in recent years, causing many expatriates to homeschool their children.

Most schools require an application fee (AED 500) as well as an admission fee (AED 2,000-5,000).  Some schools also require a type of security deposit of up to AED 50,000, which is refundable once the child leaves the school.  Additional fees for uniforms, school bus transportation, and textbooks.
