Modern, Thriving, Active.
In addition to the modern metropolis of Santiago, Chile has many natural wonders to behold: Easter Island, where you'll see over 800 figures carved from volcanic rock; the Atacama Desert, considered the driest desert in the world; over 30 national parks, and almost 50 nature preserves.
You won't find any eggs on Easter Island; instead, you'll find over 850 "moai," which are enormous figures carved out of volcanic rock.
The crater lake at Ojos del Salado on the border of Chile and Argentina is the highest lake in the world, reaching 6390 m (20,960 ft).
Chile is the longest north-south country in the world, stretching a vast 4,600 km (over 2850 miles) in length and only reaching about 150 km (93 miles) wide from east to west.
It is mandatory to display the Chilean flag on all public buildings during Fiestas Patrias (Sept. 18-19), and neglecting to do so can result in fines.
