Destination Overview

The fifth largest country in the world, Brazil spans three time zones.

Brazil is a vibrant country, famous for its football (soccer), Carnival, amazing landscapes, and rich culture. Music is plentiful in Brazil, featuring styles like choro, samba, bossa nova and caipira. Some parts of Brazil near the equator have only a wet/dry season, while other areas further south experience all four seasons.

Housing

It is fairly easy to find housing in Brazil, but don't think that means it will be inexpensive!

Typical Costs

An apartment in City Centre ranges from BRL 1500-6000/month, depending on the number of bedrooms and the location. Areas outside the City Centre are less expensive, but you may need to factor in increased transportation costs.

There is usually a standard deposit of 2-3 months’ rent expected, and leases are typically for 2 or 3 years with a clause in the contract for an annual rent increase.

Fun Fact

For the last 150 years, Brazil has been the world's largest producer of coffee.

Schooling

State schools in Brazil do not typically have a good reputation; therefore, most expats who have relocated to Brazil opt to have their children attend private schools. There are many choices in education: regular private schools, as well as international and religious schools.

Typical Costs

Annual costs for private schools can range from BRL 40,000-70,000 per year. This depends on the city and age of children, with registration fees of BRL 10,000-30,000 per child.
